DOI: 10.1177/1525822X05280177 Kuru Truths: Obtaining Fore NarrativesVictoria University of Wellington This article addresses key methodological and ethical challenges confronted during the collection of oral narratives from members of the South Fore of the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea. The purpose of the fieldwork, which was undertaken with the assistance of a Fore translator, was to obtain Fore perspectives on the scientific investigations of kuru that began in the later 1950s.
